Tidigare i höst höll Rosa Danenberg en föreläsning online om sin doktorsavhandling “Main streets as resilient public spaces: Zooming in on ground floors in Stockholm”, i föreningens regi.

“In this seminar, I present my doctoral research that I defended in December 2023 at KTH, Division of Urban and Regional Studies. My research explores the role of main streets and ground floors in the inner-city of Stockholm, focusing on their adaptability and resilience. I employed a mixed-methods approach, combining spatial analysis using Google Street View data in Stockholm (2009-2018) with property ownership data from Datscha, as well as ethnographic observations and interviews.

Focusing on four streets (Hornsgatan, Odengatan, Hantverkargatan and Götgatan), I investigate the ground floor change and socio-spatial transformations driven by factors like (retail) gentrification, the pandemic and tenure conversion with special focus on Cooperative housing associations (Bostadsrättsföreningar).

Through this research, I demonstrate the significant role small businesses and property ownership play in shaping main streets as vibrant, adaptable public spaces. The findings offer insights into how planning, design, and management can support the future resilience of these vital public spaces.
